Terms and Licence Agreement

Better PDF, a product of JCR IT Services Pty Ltd. Last updated 1 September 2026.

In plain terms. You may install Better PDF on as many of your own computers as you like. A paid licence covers the number of seats you bought. Do not resell it, do not pull it apart, and do not remove the licensing. We will fix problems, but we cannot be responsible for what happens to your documents, so keep backups. Australian Consumer Law rights always apply and nothing here removes them.

1. Who you are agreeing with

These terms are between you (the "Customer") and JCR IT Services Pty Ltd (ABN 95 163 939 839), trading as JCR Computers, of Unit G24/320B Annangrove Road, Rouse Hill NSW 2155, Australia ("JCR", "we", "us").

You accept them by downloading, installing or using Better PDF, or by placing an order for a licence. No employee or agent has authority to supply Better PDF on any other terms, and no previous dealings vary these terms.

2. Licence grant

Subject to these terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Better PDF:

A "seat" is one person or one computer. You may deactivate a computer and activate a different one; that is the intended way to move between machines.

3. What you may not do

4. Ownership

Better PDF is licensed, not sold. JCR retains all intellectual property in the software, its source code, its name and its branding. You own everything you create with it: we claim no rights whatsoever in your documents.

5. Payment, renewal and cancellation

Prices are in Australian dollars unless stated otherwise, and may change on notice for future billing periods. A change never applies retrospectively to a period you have already paid for. If you hold a perpetual licence bought before we stopped offering that option, it continues on its original terms.

If a Pro subscription ends, you can no longer send new Request Signatures envelopes, but any envelope already sent continues to completion for up to 30 days, and a completed document stays downloadable for its normal retention period. We do not hold an executed document hostage to renewal.

6. Refunds

Better PDF is free to download and use before you buy, so you can confirm it does what you need on your own files first.

If you buy and it does not work as described, tell us within 30 days and we will refund you in full. This is in addition to, and does not limit, your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

7. Updates

Better PDF checks for updates and can install them. Updates may add, change or remove features. You may turn automatic updates off, but we support only current versions, and a version we have stopped supporting may stop working with our licence server.

8. Privacy and telemetry

How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. In summary: your documents stay on your computer, except for the AI Assistant (which sends only the text you ask about, using your own key) and Request Signatures (which uploads the one document you choose to send). The app also sends an anonymous daily count which you can switch off in Help, then About.

9. Request Signatures

Request Signatures lets you send a PDF to someone else (a "signer") to sign in their browser. It is a Pro feature.

10. Back up your work

Better PDF edits your files, including saving over the original when you press Save. You are responsible for keeping backups of documents you value. We take real care here, and we build the save path to be as safe as we can make it, but software has defects and hardware fails. Do not let a single copy of an important document exist only in one place.

11. Australian Consumer Law

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For a major failure you are entitled to a replacement or refund, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods or services remedied if they are not of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies those rights. Where we are permitted to limit our liability for a breach of a consumer guarantee, we limit it as set out below.

12. Warranty and limitation of liability

Except as set out in clause 11 and elsewhere in these terms, Better PDF is provided "as is". We do not warrant that it will be free of defects or that it will run without interruption.

Subject to clause 11, and to the extent permitted by law:

13. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate a licence if it is used in breach of these terms, in particular if it is shared, resold, or used beyond the seats purchased. We will contact you first where it is reasonable to do so.

You may stop using Better PDF at any time. Clauses 4, 9, 11, 12 and 15 survive termination.

14. Third-party components

Better PDF includes open-source components under their own licences. Those licences continue to apply to those components and nothing here restricts rights you have under them.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any dispute is to be brought in the state or federal courts of New South Wales, and you and we submit to the jurisdiction of those courts.

16. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Failing to enforce a term is not a waiver of it. We may update these terms; the version published here when you buy or renew is the one that applies to that purchase.
